Thanksgiving Turkey Craft for Preschoolers

After Christmas, Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday. I love the crisp weather, cozy gathering with family (there will be 25 of us this year) and of course, the delicious food, especially freshly harvested veggies.

As H grows, I am excited to share my favorite holidays with her. This Thanksgiving will be her first taste of pumpkin pie, an all-time favorite of mine.

In addition to sampling delicious food, we are celebrating Thanksgiving by doing some fun crafts.

My favorite craft is this tie-dye Thanksgiving turkey craft. We make them every year in my kindergarten class and they are always a favorite among my students. The kids are so excited to tie-dye their turkeys and love watching the colours blend together.

It’s a sweet craft that is easy to do. I was excited to share it with H this week. It was no surprise she loved it too!

So without further ado, here are the instructions for this awesome tie-dye turkey craft.

Turkey Craft for Preschoolers

  • coffee filter
  • brown construction paper cut into a peanut shape
  • orange construction paper cut into a small diamond
  • spray bottle filled with water
  • googly eyes
  • markers
  • glue
  • scrap paper

Colour the coffee filter with markers. Encourage your child to fill in most of the filter, but a few white spots won’t hurt.

Please the coffee filter on the scrap paper (this will ensure the colour doesn’t seep through to the surface you’re working on) and allow your child to spritz water on it with the spray bottle. If you don’t have a spray bottle handy, you can use an eye dropper as well.

The coffee filter only needs to be damp, as the water will spread, creating the tie-dye pattern. If it is too wet, the colours will all blend together.

Let the coffee filter dry.

Help your child glue on googly eyes and orange beak to the brown construction paper.
